சென்னை, செப். 26: “இலங்கை முகாம்களில் மனிதப் பேரவலம் நடக்கிறது’ என்று அமெரிக்காவைச் சேர்ந்த மனித உரிமை ஆர்வலர் எலின் ஷான்டர் வேதனை தெரிவித்தார்.

அமெரிக்காவைச் சேர்ந்த மனித உரிமை ஆர்வலர் எலின் ஷான்டர், இலங்கைத் தமிழர் பிரச்னை குறித்து தமிழகத்தில் பேசுவதற்கு வாய்ப்பு மறுக்கப்பட்டதுடன், அவரது இந்தியப் பயணத்துக்கான விசா அனுமதியும் ரத்து செய்யப்பட்டது சர்ச்சையைக் கிளப்பியது.

விடியோ கான்ஃபரன்ஸிங் மூலம்… இந்நிலையில் தில்லி ஜவாஹர்லால் நேரு பல்கலைக்கழக மாணவர்கள் சார்பில் “இலங்கைத் தமிழர்’ குறித்த கருத்தரங்குக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டிருந்தது. வியாழக்கிழமை நடைபெற்ற இக்கருத்தரங்கில் விடியோ கான்ஃபரன்ஸிங் மூலம் அமெரிக்காவில் இருந்து எலின் ஷான்டர் பேசியது:

1940-களில் போலந்து நாட்டில் சித்திரவதை முகாம்களில் யூதர்கள் படுகொலை செய்யப்பட்டனர். அப்படி படுகொலையானவர்களில் என்னுடைய குடும்பத்தாரும் அடங்குவர். ஈழத்தமிழருக்கு எதிராக இலங்கை ராணுவம் திட்டமிட்டு படுகொலை செய்து வருகிறது. இலங்கைத் தமிழர்கள், இலங்கையின் யூதர்கள் என்று அழைக்கலாம்.

அகதிகள் முகாமில் 10 ஆயிரம் பேர் காணாமல் போய்விட்டனர். இப்போது தொடங்கிவிட்ட பருவ மழையால் அங்கு நிலைமை மோசமாகி இருக்கிறது.

முகாம்களில் உள்ள 35 ஆயிரம் குழந்தைகளில், 1,800 பேர் பெற்றோரை இழந்து அனாதையாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர். சர்வதேச செஞ்சிலுவைச் சங்கம், ஐக்கிய நாடுகளின் சர்வதேச குழந்தைகள் உதவி நிறுவனத்தை இலங்கை அரசு வெளியேற்றி விட்டது. அக் குழந்தைகளுக்கு யார் உதவி செய்ய இருக்கிறார்கள்.

கொசாவோ நகரில் மக்களை படுகொலை செய்த மிலோசெவிக், சூடான் பஷீர், லிபியா அதிபர் கடாபி ஆகியோர் போல இலங்கை அதிபர் ராஜபக்ஷவும் கொடுமையாக தமிழர்களை கொன்றுள்ளார். அவரை ஒரு போர் குற்றவாளியாக விசாரிக்க வேண்டும்.

உலகில் எந்த நாடும், ஈழத்தமிழருக்கு ஆதரவாக இல்லை. ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் சபை உதவ மறுக்கிறது. இப்போது தமிழக தமிழர்களும் உதவி செய்யாவிட்டால் யார் உதவி செய்வர்?. தமிழகத்தில் இருந்து 18 மைல் தொலைவில் தான் ஈழத்தமிழர்கள் உள்ளனர்.

தென் ஆப்பிரிக்காவின் நிறவெறி அரசுக்கு எதிராக உலக நாடுகள் பொருளாதாரப் புறக்கணிப்பு செய்தன. அதன் விளைவாக நிறவெறி அரசு வீழ்ந்தது. அதுபோல ராஜபக்ஷ அரசுக்கு எதிராக பொருளாதாரப் புறக்கணிப்பை தமிழர்கள் மேற்கொள்ள வேண்டும். இலங்கையின் பொருள்களை வாங்கக் கூடாது. அங்கு சுற்றுலா செல்லக் கூடாது.

இலங்கையில் முகாம்கள் என்ற பெயரில் முள்வேலியில் 3 லட்சம் தமிழர்கள் அடைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது வேறு எங்கும் நடக்காத மனிதப் பேரவலமாகும். 3 லட்சம் பேருக்கு முறையான தங்கும் வசதி கிடையாது. போதிய கழிப்பறை வசதி கிடையாது. வெறும் 500 கழிப்பறைகள் தான் உள்ளன.

சுகாதாரச் சீர்கேடு ஏற்பட்டுள்ளதுடன் சிக்குன்-குன்யா, மலேரியா போன்ற கொடிய நோய்களுக்கு ஆளாகி இறந்து வருகின்றனர். சிகிச்சை அளிக்கப் போதிய டாக்டர்கள் இல்லை. இலங்கை அரசின் போர் குற்றங்களுக்கு சர்வதேச சமூகம் தண்டனை வழங்க வேண்டும் என்றார்.

இலங்கைத் தமிழர் பாதுகாப்பு இயக்கத்தின் ஒருங்கிணைப்பாளர் பழ.நெடுமாறன், மதிமுக பொதுச் செயலாளர் வைகோ உள்ளிட்டோரும் இதில் பேசினர்.”

the other one is from an old number of Tamil journal AANANDA VIKATAN dated 11.03.2009 at page 44-45. These paegs allotted for questions to one thiru.mathan from readers and his answers to them.

One such questions is:”Under current circumstanecs , if a Tamil is an indian PM how he would handle lankan isseu?”.

The reply is:” Assuming that a similar promblem is faced by the Sokhs , can the present Pirme Minister Manmlohan Sing do what he wants to do? He would need permission from Sonia.

That is, It owuld not be sufficient iof a Tamil is the PM.
TO MEET SUCH A CONTINGENCY ONE NEED ENORMOUS COMPASSION AND MOUNTAIN LIKE COURAGE. The truth is we have washed our hands from the tamils livign in Sri Lanka.

I have completed one more year yesterday as per informal recrords of my family and begun this day of 25th day of Sep 09 in my form and life as a human on earh!

I felw into Coimbatore yesterday after three days stint in Chennai for my avocational needs.

An xeperinec is worth sharing. As I drioe to certain location in Adyaaru, i happend to notice this time a very sweet Tamil name board of a sweet and bakery shop near Adayaaru fly over. The name is “THAMIZHINI INIPPAHAM ” . I was curious for two days and on 23rd evening I stopped the cab and and stepoed into this shop. A gentleman welcomed me with folded palms in vanakkam and he said so. I asked him this was very strange experince to be accposetd in tamil tradiiton and how ands why the name is ;piuer tamil. He told me to my delight that the origin of the owner was YaazhppaaNam ( jaffna)! There was indeed yaazhppaanam kozhukkattai for sale among other items. I resoevd forthwith i muts patronize the shop- I examined the array of eatables in sweet and bakery items. I chose NOT any sweets. He asked me whether I did not need sweets. I said I had sworn to myself not to touch sweets and feast at all fater May 18th! Thrilled he seized my hands and shook them warmly. Tha revelaed to me that the glow of libertaion is still intense Eezhamite tamils.

I do not pray nowadays as my prayers for the eezhamite tamils and LLTE went unheeded by the my favouirte idnetity of GOD,Murugan each day during war last year 2008 and thsi year upto May. I begna my mornginw alk with sincere prayers to the GOD. But the Mighty Force was not in favour of Eezhamite Tamils. I never pray after May 18.

last night my beloved my wife asked me whether i would be going over to temeples in the omornign next n next , that is today. I said no. She was pewrturebd and said she wloudl anyway pray for me! That is the way solidarity with and loyality to a husband is ;practised by an average tamil wife!

My concern is the prosped INTERNATIONAL TAMIL MEET in coming January. Thiru.M.K is really callous ! o can the tamils ever hold such a massive coneferenec while 3 laksh of them are held in camps as IDPN and teh news reda in yester day reads that unless an until the LTTE supprters are flushed out the SL government
would not dl not resttle them.

The fiutuer os the tamils in general are bleak.

But the conefretren woudl take plave anyway and iam sure Thiru.MK would invite tmt.Soniaa and others from New delhi. I recall the days of 1st tamil world conference in the then Madras during the reign of pEraRingnar ANNAA. as CM. It was the greatest gathering of tamils and i attended the next one in Madurai too. I had met MPs of TULF then at the conference and also the interesting person thoru.VAIKUNTHAVAASAN who took the place of the then sriklankan FM thiru ABDUL HAMEED and addressed the General Assembly!

U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice told reporters on Thursday that the United States has “serious concerns” about a U.N. report accusing Israel and Hamas of war crimes in the Gaza war, reports Reuters.

Rice claimed the investigation into the Gaza war was flawed. Instead of focusing on the war, which took place in December 2008-January 2009, there should be a focus on the peace process, she claimed.

HRC is indeed an interesting woman… one rule for Israel and one for SL. She seems to be counting votes for the next presidential election now itself.

The Sri Lankan government says the Tamil Tigers have been wiped out, the war is over, and Sri Lanka is free from conflict.
But if this is true, why there are so many innocents still imprisoned, raped, murdered.
Is the war against the Tamil Tigers, or against the Tamil people?
I hope you remember when the Sri Lankan military said they conducted the biggest hostage rescue operation.
Tell me why these people are still living like hostages inside their concentration camps.
What are they being ‘protected’ from if the government has already defeated the Tamil rebels?
The Sri Lankan government said they had liberated the Tamil people as well as the whole N-E side of the land from the Tamil Tigers
Are the people inside the walls of the concentration camp liberated?
This is a peculiar concept of liberation.
In my opinion the Sri Lankan ‘liberators’ are in fact occupiers.
Colonizing all of the Tamil Homelands, ethnically cleansing and enslaving the civilians which is below the law, nationally and internationally.
Sri Lanka depends on outside, international help.
If they continue to need this help, the organizations supporting them have an upper hand in a way.
Letting them know their help will discontinue if the state of affairs does not improve may just be the way to end the mistreatment of the minority.

If you are this concerned about these issues, its hard to believe that you are unaware of the constraints that prevents these people from been released immediately. If indeed you need to refresh your mind, you can go read my response to one Mr. Elagovan in #280. Even if I were to provide you a factual answer you are unlikely to accept it since I feel its not your game.

Why is it that whenever the topic of the 300, 000 people imprisoned within the Sri Lankan concentration camps is brought to attention, narrow minded people choose to dig up the past.
Just because the Americans may have killed thousands of people with the Hiroshima bombings, does not justify the actions of the Sri Lankan Army( SLA.). Please, don�t paint the Sri Lankan army as a harmless kitty.
Although many terrible things have happened in the past, there is no justification for the treatment of the Tamil people.

I do not in anyway condone the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On the contrary it is you who always adorns the US military, their professionalism and morals. I cited the above examples to prove to you that US military, their tactics and policies aren’t always professional nor moral.

Furthermore, I also agree that, whatever misconduct on part of US military or any other military is not an excuse for SLA to behave in the same manner. Having said that, as a civilian I’m in no position to demand from those who risk their lives to protect us from the terrorists that they also stick to certain standards while they go about the difficult task of combating terrorists who are fanatic enough to commit suicide!

If on the other hand, I was a military man myself who adheres to those principles, then I could demand that my fellow soldiers also adhere to them.

If anyone thinks that the recent military push was an unnecessary use of force, then that only reflects his or her ignorance towards this country, its people, their security and future. Like I said before in such a situation only morons who cannot comprehend the danger that awaits them and traitors with malicious agendas would demand things that may compromise SLA or its operations.

SLA was the only hope we had and whatever reason that may have prompted them to joined the army those soldiers fought the war with great risk to their own lives. Hence, I as a civilian who now benefits from the sacrifices made by those men will not demand anymore.

What is the point of questioning democracy, media freedom, inflation or corruption when you cannot get on to a bus or train not knowing whether you will be able to get off alive? Before democracy or media freedom can be meaningful to a person, he first needs to have security. This is something that those who find fault with the present administration for been undemocratic, etc. etc., must realize. Personally, I don’t think that they don’t realize this but rather their interests lie elsewhere.

Those were desperate times and required desperate measures. Under such circumstances, there is a limit to what GR or SF could have done to control the actions of each and every soldier while facing the LTTE killing machine.

Hence I refuse to hold GR or SF responsible for any misconduct on part of specific soldiers or demand from SLA that they adhere to all known humanitarian norms during the concluded war. Given the credentials of people who were in command of SLA, I have faith that SLA tried their best to minimize civilian casualties and save whoever they could– civilian or terrorist.

The mute response of those who clamor for war crimes investigations in SL for similar if not worst situations elsewhere in the world, particularly where the west has it’s hands dirty is nothing but disgusting. It isn’t the people like us who try not to demand things which are humanly impossible from their military that ought to be condemned but those who try to vilify other countries to cover their own nakedness.

For instance, though the US state department has initiated a prompt investigation into SLA’s conduct they don’t seem to have the same eagerness to investigate Israel’s conduct in recent clashes in Gaza. Not only do they refuse to take action against such conduct due to strong Jewish lobby in US politics but the Obama administration announced 40 billion dollars of military aid to Israel! Hence, when US or UN shouts war crimes! War Crimes!, people with common sense will take look at the situation for themselves before they join the band wagon.

You seem to care a lot for the three hundred thousand innocent people who are still languishing in the concentration camps, which is an honourable action within itself.
